For surely,
I know the plans I have for you,
says the Lord,
plans for your welfare,
and not for harm,
to give you a future with hope.
Jeremiah 29:11 (NRSV)
Hi there!
Thank you for sitting with me in this virtual space where I can introduce myself to you.
I am a retired clergyperson blessed with a loving, supportive spouse with children who love God and lead productive lives. And of course, there are our grandsons who are incredibly special to us (as with most grandparents). I must also say that I care about clergy, congregations and how they impact people in their communities.
When I reflect on the course of my life, it’s important for you to know that it was not easy for me to discern God’s will or God’s plans for me. I had no roadmap and no compass. Some decisions were thoughtful, sound and laser focused. Others were random, even haphazard, but still, at times, had a favorable outcome. The bottom line is that I had no systematic approach to decision making, nor did I have anyone to guide me. My route was rarely a straight path; and many times, it was unnecessarily circuitous. Sometimes, unforeseen to me, there were even hazards along the way. Perhaps, my journey is similar to yours.
Despite the seemingly arbitrary nature of my life-processing, I encountered many different people and experienced life in various places. Yet, I have come to believe that I still could have benefited from the guidance of someone who was more experienced at listening to God or being attuned to the leading of the Spirit; someone who could’ve asked me questions that would’ve helped me sort through my feelings and fine-tune my thinking; someone who could’ve helped me identify and claim my strengths; someone like a coach, not too unlike the coach for a sports team; someone who could’ve helped me strategize my approach, map out my role as I played on the field of life. For me, it did not happen that way, but through it all, I thank God for my journey and where it lead to!
Out my life’s experiences and need, I envisioned a service like AAP Coaching. My last thought to share, for now, is to continue following the path God has for me. Perhaps, one day, we’ll meet at the crossroads. While standing there, we’ll have an opportunity to have conversation, exchange ideas, after I ask some questions and listen a lot, so that YOU can discern the direction, the plan, God has for YOU.
